Become a Team Manager with the Pirates
Team Managers are the vital link between the Club, the coaches, players, and parents – helping everything run smoothly on and off the field.
What Does a Team Manager Do?
Communication Hub
Share all club updates (written or verbal) with your team’s players and parents.
Relay any team queries, concerns or feedback back to the Club.
Administration & Fees
Collect any outstanding player fees and return them to the Club Registrar.
Check the team pigeonhole and Club website weekly for new information, updates or forms.
Game Day Support
Support the coach by managing players on the bench, organising the next batters, and helping coordinate fielding positions.
Notify scorers and umpires of any substitutions or fielding changes.
Record any injuries, missed duties (e.g. umpiring), or protests in the scorebook.
Ensure the scoresheet is handed in to the canteen after home games.
Phone through the result of every game on the same day it’s played.
Uniform & Equipment Duties
At season’s end, collect all team uniforms and return them to the Uniform Coordinator at the nominated time.
Reporting & Recognition
Prepare a team report for presentation day (in collaboration with the coach).
Submit short match reports for the Club website – every player should be mentioned at least once during the season.
You’re welcome to appoint a Media Rep to help with writing and photos.
Provide articles for the Club Newsletter as requested.
Disputes & Protests
Refer formal protests to the Umpire Coordinator and ensure they are properly recorded in the scorebook.
Supporting Team Spirit
Promote encouragement and positivity from players, parents, and supporters.
Reinforce adherence to the Club’s Code of Conduct and help manage any inappropriate behaviour.
Additional Support Roles in the Team
Coach
Leads training and game day activities, manages player development, and is responsible for equipment.
Assistant Coach
Supports the coach by helping run training sessions and sharing on-field duties.
Scorer
Keeps a detailed and accurate record of the game. Training is provided. This role is vital and offers the best seat on the field!
Umpire
Leads the game on-field. Umpires are provided for home games; away games may require team support. Training and guidance are available.
Casual Game Day Roles for Parents
Batting Order Assistant
Helps prepare the next few batters and ensures they are kitted up and ready to go.
Base Coach
Guides runners and communicates during base running. Must watch the ball and help with safe decisions.
Pitch Counter
Tracks the number of pitches thrown per game to ensure pitching limits are followed.
On Game Day, the Manager Should:
Assign roles to willing parents. Most are happy to help – they may just need a little encouragement.
Ensure the coach, umpire, and scorer have what they need.
Organise drinks or support for team staff if needed.
Distribute any notices, fundraising materials, or communications from the Club.
Write a short match summary for the Club’s online update (players love to see their name mentioned!).
Ensure all scoresheets and results are submitted promptly.
Weekly and General Duties
Before Each Game
Maintain and distribute an up-to-date team list (including player numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses).
Provide copies of the match draw – highlight your team’s games for clarity.
Remind players and parents about game and training times.
Cancellations and Absences
Notify all relevant parties of game or training cancellations (especially due to weather).
Encourage families to inform you in advance of absences or illness.
Weekly Updates
Send a post-game update via email, including the result, highlights, and details for the coming week.
Club Involvement & End-of-Season Duties
Provide volunteers for Ground Duty (diamond setup at Corbin) and Canteen Duty (BBQ and food service).
Encourage families to attend Club social events – try to fill a table with your team!
Organise a small end-of-season gift for team staff (coach, umpire, scorer). A suggested contribution is $5 per player per role.
Collect all uniforms and return them promptly – ideally before or on Presentation Day.
Encourage full attendance at Presentation Day.
