Become a Scorer with the Pirates
Scorers play a crucial behind-the-scenes role in every game. They keep an accurate and official record of the action on the field.
Every team must supply a scorer for each game, and training is available to help you learn the ropes. Whether you’re new or experienced, scoring is a rewarding way to get involved and support your team.
What Does a Team Scorer Do?
Before the Game:
Attend any Club-run scoring sessions to learn the basics or refresh your skills.
Collect the batting line-up from the coach and enter it into the official scorebook.
Exchange batting line-ups with the opposition scorer to ensure both books are accurate.
During the Game:
Record every pitch, play, and substitution in the scorebook using standard scoring notation.
Maintain accuracy and consistency. Your records help track player stats and confirm game results.
After the Game (Home Games):
Ensure the plate umpire signs the result sheet.
Submit the completed and signed sheet to the Club Recorder promptly.
No experience? No problem. Scoring might seem complex at first, but with a little practice, it becomes second nature. You’ll also have the best view of the game.
If you’re interested in learning how to score or want to give it a try, speak with your Team Manager or Coach. We’ll support you with training and resources to get started.
