Become a Scorer with the Pirates

Scorers play a crucial behind-the-scenes role in every game. They keep an accurate and official record of the action on the field.

Every team must supply a scorer for each game, and training is available to help you learn the ropes. Whether you’re new or experienced, scoring is a rewarding way to get involved and support your team.

What Does a Team Scorer Do?

Before the Game:

  • Attend any Club-run scoring sessions to learn the basics or refresh your skills.

  • Collect the batting line-up from the coach and enter it into the official scorebook.

  • Exchange batting line-ups with the opposition scorer to ensure both books are accurate.

During the Game:

  • Record every pitch, play, and substitution in the scorebook using standard scoring notation.

  • Maintain accuracy and consistency. Your records help track player stats and confirm game results.

After the Game (Home Games):

  • Ensure the plate umpire signs the result sheet.

  • Submit the completed and signed sheet to the Club Recorder promptly.

No experience? No problem. Scoring might seem complex at first, but with a little practice, it becomes second nature. You’ll also have the best view of the game.

If you’re interested in learning how to score or want to give it a try, speak with your Team Manager or Coach. We’ll support you with training and resources to get started.
