Pirates Baseball and Softball Club
September 2011

Let's Playball!!

It's back baby!! Another season with the Pirates Family. To those members who are new to the club, welcome - we hope that you will enjoy your time with us this summer and it is the beginning of a wonderful relationship with our club. To all our returning members - welcome back...

It has been a very hectic lead-up to the new summer season - all up we have registered over 320 junior kids across baseball and softball making us one of the largest clubs in Australia. All up we estimate that there will be over 30 junior teams - which is an amazing result.

With a club this size comes a number of logistical challenges and we thank everyone for their patience and support with gradings, team allocations, coaching and ultimately into the new season.

The junior season for U9-U17 commences this weekend with U8's to start in a couple of weeks time and our U7's program to commence the first Friday after the October long weekend.

So as they say in our sport - Let's Playball!!

A distinguished winter season for the Pirates

Over the winter season many of our teams did the club proud with some fantastic results:

  • Our Pirates Major League squads finished runners-up in 1st and 2nd grade after both teams made it to their respective grand finals in the Sydney Winter Major League season. Our third grade side also competed well finishing 5th in their grade. All up the Pirates finished 2nd in the Sydney Winter Club Championship

    Pirates Major League 1st Grade

  • The U12 QH White team won a premiership in the Hills Junior Winter Season defeating Kellyville 15-3 in the Grand Final

  • After claiming the minor premiership, the QH Misfits also finished runners-up in the Senior G2 Grade in the Sydney Metro Baseball League Winter Season

Players and spectator Code of Conduct

As our new season is due to commence we would like to remind all members of the player and spectator code of conduct. Both Baseball and Softball are games that do not tolerate abuse of any kind to officials and the Association (and the Pirates Club) imposes strict penalties on those players who are ejected from games or are in serious breach of the Code of Conduct.

Player Code of Conduct:

As an individual and team member, I will;-

  1. Work hard for myself and my team at all times. I will co-operate with my own team officials and with team-mates and opponents, and obey any reasonable request from my team coaches or manager.
  2. Play by the rules of the competition, and follow all recommendations of The League regarding safe play and equipment, and obey the rules prohibiting banned substances.
  3. Never argue with an umpire and always accept the decisions of the umpires as being fair and called to the best of their ability.
  4. Control my temper. I recognise that swearing or verbal abuse of umpires, team officials or other players will not be tolerated. I will not abuse equipment (mine or anyone else’s). I will not throw bats or helmets or other equipment.
  5. Not cause any loss or damage to private property or cause a disturbance to others.
  6. Not invite anyone other than team personnel into restricted areas such as the dugout.
  7. Behave in a polite and appropriate manner toward others. I will applaud all good plays from either team, and treat all players as I would like to be treated. I will not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of any other player, nor deliberately distract or provoke an opponent.
  8. Be frank and honest with my coach concerning illness or injury and my ability to take part in training session or games.
  9. Be responsible for my personal appearance, behaviour, personal hygiene and cleaning of my own equipment. I will be neat and tidy in appearance at games, training sessions and at any time that I am in public as a baseball player.
  10. Be prompt for meetings, training sessions and games, and if I can’t attend on time (or at all) then I will call my team manager or coach and say so, as soon as I can.

Parent Code of Conduct

With regards to spectator behaviour:

  • I warrant that my behaviour at League activities, and that of other family members and friends, will be non-confrontational, benign and unlikely to bring the game into disrepute

Please remember that when at a game you are representing the Pirates Club and we ask you to play (and spectate) with pride but at the same time be fair and present yourself in a way that reflects positively on the club.

Thank you

Neil Austin
