Pirates Clean Sweep the Giants

The Quakers Hill Pirates hosted the Greenway Giants at Corbin Reserve last Sunday in Round 13 of the Sydney Winter Baseball League and walked away with wins in all 3 Grades.  1st Grade featured 4 Home Runs and a come from behind win by the Pirates lead by Sydney Blue Sox Alex Johnson with 5 RBIs

The Pirates 1st Grade squad was kept quiet after a quick start by the Giants which saw them take a 3-0 lead after the first innings, featuring back to back home runs by the Giant’s lead off and number 2 batters.  Starting pitcher for the Pirates, Andrew Erickson, then settled and held the Giant’s offense at bay until the top of the 7th innings when replaced by closer Jason Pospishil (Sydney Blue Sox Assistant Coach and former Minnesota Twins Minor Leaguer).  The Pirates’ defense included a great tag out at home plate by Alex Howe (who has just returned from College Baseball in Texas, USA) thrown by Right Fielder Josh Strong.  However, this 7 – 3 win by the Pirates was dominated by the offensive attack of Sydney Blue big hitter Alex Johnson with 2 Home Runs and a total of 5 RBIs.  The Pirates 1st Grade squad now hold 2nd place in the championship and are continuing to build for the final series.

After suffering 5 straight losses whilst playing away, the ‘Puppy’ Pirates took advantage of their Home Ground bouncing back with a dominant offensive win against the Giants 3rd Grade 10 – 3.  The Pirates hold 6th place in 3rd Grade but still remain well within contention of the Finals.  In 2nd Grade, the Pirates maintained their position as number 1 on the competition ladder with an 8-4 win, featuring a 2 RBI Home Run to Brendon Bojarski and now boast an 80% win ratio for the season to date.

The Quakers Hill Pirates have now moved into 2nd place for the Sydney Winter Baseball League Club Championship, and hope to improve on this position further next Sunday 10th July against Holroyd Giants at Corbin Reserve.  All supporters are welcome (1st Grade starts at 2pm).  In addition, the Pirates are hosting free “Try Baseball” days at Corbin on Sundays 24th & 31st July from 10am – 2pm for all interested Junior Players aged 5 and above, featuring many of the Pirates’ Sydney Blue Sox players.  Go to for full details.
