Pirates Baseball and Softball Club
June-July 2011

Registration for 2011/12 Summer season with the Pirates is now open on the Quakers Hill Pirates website!! This year we encourage all of our members returning to play with the Pirates to register as early as possible. This helps us begin preparing for the assignment of coaches, allocation of equipment, grading process and formation of teams. Knowing our numbers as early as possible assists us to plan each of these elements.

All registrations will have to be completed by 31 July 2011 so that players who need to participate in grading can do so in early August (more information about the 2011/12 season grading process will be distributed shortly). Registering early avoids the risk of missing this important date.

This year we have streamlined our online registration process by creating a member account structure. Once you complete setting up the details of your account and your players, you can register and pay for multiple players at the one time - without the hassle of completing the whole form each time. Plus your account is ongoing so you can login and manage your details, plus register and pay for players at any time in the future.

Our security has also been bolstered on the registration form with all details now protected by SSL security. For added convenience we also offer an online payment facility by credit card.

From Pirates Juniors to Pirates Major League -
profile interview with Troy Jones

The Pirates provides fantastic opportunities to achieve your dreams and progress to elite levels in Baseball. One player who started in Pirates juniors from a very young age in T-ball, progressed through junior baseball and is now playing in the Pirates Major League team is Troy Jones. We speak with him about where he started and the advice he has for other budding players looking to achieve.

What age did you start playing t-ball/baseball? 4 years old, played 3 seasons of U8's

What position(s) do you play? In juniors I played a lot of positions starting at1st base, outfield then catcher, & when I did a tour with John Yard he developed me into a 2nd baseman & that is where I currently play in U18's & SWBL (Sydney Winter Major League)

LH or RH batter? Right Hand I also throw right hand

Who is/was your favourite player growing up? Dustin Pedrioa & Troy Tulowitski

Favourite major league team? Boston Red Sox

What's the most exciting thing about playing major league baseball? The atmosphere is awesome, particularly when Pirates juniors & families who I have grown up with & still deal with in the club coaching etc come down to watch & support is very special. The level of competition is also very high

What's your most memorable moment on the field? Playing U8's, I turned a double play & to have coach Ozzie (Club President Neil Austin) doing cartwheels across the infield I will never forget.

What advice would you give to any younger junior player who wants to pursue baseball to the major league level? Work hard, baseball is a game that will give you great returns if you put the work in. Always play with the Pirate's spirit of the game & have fun as it is only a game & it is supposed to be fun. Always try to reach the next level by doing Pirate's development clinics, trialling for reps & especially the junior tours on offer these days, I have been lucky to see a lot of the world thanks to baseball.
