2013 Pirates Winter Academy - 1 week to go!!

Just a quick note to confirm with you that our program will be commencing from Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th April and will continue on the same days each week until early August 2013.

This is the 5th year of our development program and it continues to build and advance the skills of younger players who want to move towards high level baseball and the program has seen numerous graduates go on to represent Pirates in our Sydney Winter Major League squad.

Age Groups
  • U10~U14's - 6:00-7:30pm
  • U16/U17s/U18s / Pirates 4th Grade / SWBL - 7:30-9:00pm

What to wear?

All participants should come in training attire - baseball pants (colour does not matter), cleats, cap (we will have Pirates club caps available for sale at the canteen), a training undershirt (long-sleeved as the weather gets colder) and a jumper for after training. Players should also bring along their glove, bat and playing equipment.

Is training on or not?

When the weather is a bit "iffy" or previous days of rain may have the ground unavailable, there are a number of ways to check if training is on or not:

  1. Check the ground status at the top of the Pirates website If the ground is closed training will not be on.
  2. Monitor your email for announcements from Program Manager Nathan "Lefty" Wright who will advise if that night's session is on or not.
  3. Like the Pirates Facebook Page and monitor it for any last minute announcements or cancellations

What facilities are available?

Our canteen will be open during the Winter Academy and has tea and coffee for sale if you need to keep warm and if you ask nicely our head groundsman "Cracker" will let you come by the gas fire to stay warm ;-)
